According to Dr. Helen Fisher, there are four broad personality styles. From her book "Why Him? Why Her?" Dr Fisher outlined these four styles. In my personal experience in dealing with individuals and their personalities, I have found this information to be accurate.
The Explorer: Explorers are curious, creative, adventurous, sexual, impulsive and self-reliant. They are also known for high energy, novelty, risk and pleasure seeking ways, and not being easily swayed by opinion. According to the book, Explorers make up 8% of the population.
The Builder: Interestingly, and according to the book, this style makes up 44% of the population. Builders are calm, persistent, loyal, traditional, cooperative, social and managerial. They are also usually very popular, consistent, protective, with deep attachment to home and family.
The Director: Directors are analytical, decisive, focused, inventive, competitive, independent and strategic-minded. They are also daring, original, direct, non-conforming, skilled at abstract thinking and short-term planning, often assertive, tough-minded and efficient.
The Negotiator: Negotiators are imaginative, verbal, intuitive, idealistic, agreeable and introspective. They excel at seeing the big picture, long-term planning and consensus building, all the while being flexible, socially skilled, empathetic and nurturing.
Builder's are the corner stone of society. This style by their numbers and preferences I have found shape the social norm. They live by, "If it's not broken, don't fix it". Very traditional in their life style, they usually are very social together in groups.
Explorers are the scientists, the innovators, entrepreneurs, the adventurers. This group is always looking for new ways to stream line process's, they are the Ideal people. These people think outside the box, tend to be non traditional, and think more abstractly than precisely.
Directors, have the directions, often Architect's engineers, mathematicians, these people usually speak a very precise language.
Negotiators, are the peace keepers, they negotiate between the groups. Often this style are artists, musician, counselors, nurses, and natural healers.
